The announcement comes as the company continues to lose market share in the smartphone game market.
Enix recently lost the battle to compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade.
Apple and other major publishers have been aggressively targeting console players with their games.
Enix has also struggled to find a way to monetize its games.
Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children was a massive success but is now down to $2 million in sales after Square Enix cut back on development.
Square Enix has been trying to make up for lost sales of its Final Fantasy 7: Advent Future games and other Square Enix products, such as Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
Square has been working on a new version of its iOS platform, but the company has struggled to get a foothold in the market.
Square has a limited app store and is currently competing with Apple’s iOS app store.
The company’s new iOS games include Final Fantasy XI: The Frozen Wilds, Final Fantasia: Unlimited World Adventures, and the upcoming Final Fantasy XV.
The games are set for release in the spring of 2021.
